These courses are definitely not for
everyone and are specifically aimed at experienced divers who wish to dive
beyond recreational diving limits - often to increase the time spent
underwater diving on wrecks etc.
PADI's Diving
Science and Technology (DSAT) programme qualifies divers to extend no decompression dives, make gas switches
underwater and also complete accelerated decompression dives using
enriched air and oxygen to a maximum depth of 50 metres - using technical
diving equipment and procedures to manage the risks involved.
Much
of the course relates to equipment configuration and set up procedures, so it
is essential that you have your own technical diving equipment - to
familiarise yourself with its operation and practice emergency drills etc. The basic Tec Rig comprises;
- Double cylinders (twin set)
with isolator manifold - ideally 12 litres
- BCD Wing with harness and backplate
- Primary and Secondary regulators - one
with a 2m hose
- Bottom Timer/Dive computer
- Lift Bag/SMB and reel
- Underwater Compass
- Stage/deco cylinders with regulators
(although these can be hired from us)
The training course can be completed in three
separate phases -
where Tec 40 and Tec 45 are
subcourses of the full Tec 50 programme.
Frog Squad
deliberately offer three distinct courses - enabling divers to gain additional
diving experience within the 40m and 45m range, before making an informed decision, as to
whether to progress onto the next level (decompression diving up to a
maximum depth of 50m)
Please note: You will be responsible for the
costs incurred for all gases - namely enriched air nitrox and 100% oxygen
All DSAT/PADI performance requirements must be met during each training dive, otherwise it will be necessary to repeat this particular part of the course - for which additional payment will be necessary
Refunds cannot be awarded due to inability to meet the performance requirements and necessary skills
Tec
40 Course
- £350 £300 (using own equipment)
The Tec 40 course is the first subdivision of the
DSAT Tec Deep Diver course and consists of the first 4 dives.
Divers can use recreational scuba equipment, with some minor additions to enhance their ability to deal with tec diving conditions and the course qualifies them to:
- Use decompression software and dive computers to plan and make decompression dives with no more than 10 minutes of total decompression and not deeper than 40 metres
- Use a single cylinder of decompression gas with up to 50 percent oxygen (EANx50) to add conservatism to the required decompression.
To enrol on the course you must
fulfil the following criteria;
- certified PADI
Advanced Open Water Diver (or equivalent)
- certified PADI
Enriched Air Diver (or equivalent) - completed at least 10 dives using
Enriched Air (Nitrox)
- certified PADI
Deep Diver (or equivalent) - completed at least 12 dives below 18m
and 6 dives must be deeper than 30m
- minimum of 50 logged dives
- Medical Form signed by a physician
The Tec 40 training course credits toward the Tec 45 and Tec 50 courses.
Tec 45 Course
- £350 £250 (using own equipment)
The Tec 45 course is the second subdivision of the DSAT Tec Deep Diver course:
- The skills and equipment and planning need to dive to a maximum of 45 metres using full technical diving equipment
- The knowledge to plan and execute single and repetitive decompression dives using a single stage cylinder of EANx or oxygen to accelerate or add conservatism to the decompression stops
- No time limit to amount of decompression
- Prepare for and respond to foreseeable technical diving emergencies
- Master the basic skills and procedures needed for deeper technical diving
To enrol on the course you must
be at least 18 years of age and fulfil the following criteria;
- certified PADI Advanced Open Water Diver (or equivalent)
- certified PADI Enriched Air Diver (or equivalent) - completed at least 12 dives using
Enriched Air (Nitrox) deeper than 18m
- certified PADI Rescue Diver (or equivalent)
- certified PADI Deep Diver (or equivalent) - completed 6 dives deeper than 30m
- Tec 40 (or hold a qualifying certification from another organization)
- minimum of 50 logged dives
- Medical Form signed by a physician
Tec 50 Course - £350 £250 (using own equipment)
The Tec 50 course completes your training as an entry-level tec diver, taking you past the limits of recreational diving:
- Make actual decompression dives as deep as 50 metres
- Use enriched air nitrox and/or oxygen for decompression
- Use desk top decompression software to create custom dive tables and plan dives
- Dive with two decompression gases with up to 100 percent oxygen
To enrol on the course you must
be at least 18 years of age and fulfil the following criteria;
- certified PADI Advanced Open Water Diver (or equivalent)
- certified PADI Enriched Air Diver (or equivalent) - completed at least 20 dives using
Enriched Air (Nitrox)
- certified PADI Rescue Diver (or equivalent)
- certified PADI Deep Diver (or equivalent) - completed 25 dives deeper than 18m (20 dives must be deeper than 30m)
- Tec 45 (or hold a qualifying certification from another organization)
- minimum of 100 logged dives
- Medical Form signed by a physician
All diver training agencies recognise that the accepted maximum depth limit using
air (21%), should not exceed 50 metres - due to the risk of oxygen toxicity
caused by the increased partial pressure of the oxygen in compressed air. For
divers who wish to explore beyond these depths, mixed gases often known
as Trimix (Helium, Oxygen and Nitrogen blends) are required and there
are effectively NO depth limits!
Frog Squad
currently do not offer Mixed Gas courses (e.g. Trimix) or rebreather training
(closed or semi closed) - but we are more than happy to arrange these
for you, through our PADI Course Director |
