Rescue Diver
Both the
PADI Open Water Diver and
Advanced Open Water Diver courses are about
building your dive experience and confidence. Rescue Divers learn how to look
beyond themselves to consider the safety and well-being of other divers
(including your dive buddy).
This is why the
PADI Rescue Diver certification is a prerequisite for all PADI
leadership-level training (see Go Professional). Rescue
Diver training expands the basic problem prevention and accident management
skills, that divers begin to develop during the Open
Water Diver course.
At the Rescue
Diver level you will be able to manage more complex dive emergencies and to
apply direct intervention techniques to assist others requiring help.
The course involves rescue training sessions
in both confined water and open water, where you will practice a series of
scenarios;
- Tired Diver
- Panicked Diver
- Response from Shore,
Boat or Dock
- Distressed Diver
Underwater
- Missing Diver
- Surfacing the
Unresponsive Diver
- Unresponsive diver at
the Surface
- Exiting the
Unresponsive Diver
- First Aid for
Pressure-related Injuries and Oxygen Administration
- Response from
Shore/Boat Unresponsive Diver
- Distressed Diver
Underwater with Extremity Injury
- Distressed Divers On
the Surface
- Unresponsive Diver
Underwater
- Unresponsive Diver on
the Surface, Exiting and First Aid

All
training materials (PADI Manual, Accident Management
slates, etc) and equipment hire are included in the price of the course
(£209) - although we do recommend that you purchase your own mask and snorkel
(available from
Frog Squad).
To enrol on the course you must be at least
12 years of age and have completed a sanctioned course in Cardiopulmonary
Resuscitation (CPR-Primary Care) and basic first aid (Secondary Care) within
the past two years (24 months).
If you don't already hold a current qualification,
Frog Squad
offer an extensive range of First Aid/CPR programmes (see Emergency First Response)
As a PADI Open Water Diver, you may
undertake all the confined water training, but must be a PADI Advanced
Open Water Diver in order to complete the course fully.
Junior Rescue Divers
Children aged between 12 and 14 years will
follow the same training programme as adults and on completion will be
qualified as Junior Rescue Divers. Once they attain the age of
15 years, they can simply upgrade to
standard Rescue Diver - with no additional requirements.
